South Head Golf Course, built on the sandy soils of the South Kaipara Peninsula to a design by Jack Eccles, was opened in 1969 with just a handful of members. The rolling fairways, grassed with Kikuyu, and naturally shaped greens were an instant hit and have continued to this day to provide a fair challenge to every standard of golfer. You'll find no tricks at South Head – just plain good golfing conditions overlooking the Kaipara Harbour. The recent removal of a considerable number of pine trees has made the course even more playable and the views more spectacular.
